ABOUT ARTIST
Evan Mooney
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Evan grew up surrounded by and participating in a culture enlivened by the arts. She went on to attend the University of Virginia where she studied art and received her BA in Art History in 2006.
“I paint as a form of personal expression and often feel that, rather than using words, I can communicate best through the use of color and abstraction. Within my art, I explore the balance between chaos and control. I love color and texture and the play between opposing forces in each. Bright and muted, rough and smooth, warm and cold, free form and precise, raised and flat, opaque and transparent—these are all elements that I grapple with when composing a piece. I let my emotion and intuition lead my process, and I use the time in my studio as a meditation on both the challenges and the grace I am surrounded by each day. I am grateful for my family—my husband and three little ones—who inspire much of the energy found in my work. I am also profoundly moved by the passions and persistence of others that I witness every day. I paint for the joy of it, and I believe that this comes through in each unique piece. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my work. My greatest wish is that it inspires hope and gladness in others.”
