Gallery Terminology 101 : A quick list for the emerging art collector!
The majority of our artists’ pieces are created on gallery wrap, which is a canvas substrate wrapped around a 2″ stretcher bar. These pieces do not require a frame, and are equipped with wire and ready to hang!
When multiple artistic mediums are used to create a piece, we refer to this as “mixed media.” For example, Alicia Armstrong combines graphite, oil, charcoal and precious metal leaf to create her unique mixed media pieces.
This intensive process is a new favorite of our Sally Powell Boyd. It involves the application of wax over a painted wood surface, that is then torched and melted to reveal rich colors and textures.
This beautiful, crisp medium is another favorite at the Gallery. Constructed of maple or birch, our wood panels are typically around 2 inches thick. Like our canvases, these pieces do not require a frame, and are equipped with wire and ready to hang!
