ABOUT ARTIST

Claire Jacobs

“My creativity is rooted in the intuitive process of painting. Beginning with layers of color and line, I create gestural marks with oil pigment crayons, and apply swaths of paint with a Princeton Catalyst Wedge tool. The composition emerges slowly, through the development of layers, shapes, and colors. I create areas of detail, while finding the courage to leave negative space. Within my work, ideas are added and subtracted, hidden and revealed. Perhaps, the paintings contain a narrative that reflects our experiences in life. We try things, edit, regroup, and try again. These experiences, both profound and subtle, are recorded within the layers of my paintings.”
